Hey, I’m Jeffrey Kirk.

So, in the world of online marketing, you might be wondering if content written by AI might get you in trouble with Google’s recent update that rewards good content.

Think about it this way: You’ve worked hard on your website and your blog content, sometimes burning the midnight oil and chugging coffee to create the perfect posts. Then these AI tools come along promising to make writing a breeze. Compared to what you do, they churn out content super-fast – even faster than the most hyper-caffeinated writer on a tight deadline!

But here’s the question: Are you risking your search rankings by using these smart machines? I mean, getting work done quickly is great, but if that means your website plummets in the search results never to be seen again, it’s not worth the time savings, right?

So, is it true that Google might not like content created by AI? Do search engines prefer stuff written by humans? Will your site be punished if you seek the help of ChatGPT or Bard or some other AI writing tool? Let’s dig into this a little bit.

First off, what is AI-generated content?

Basically, it’s content written by computer software, not by real people. It’s content that’s automatically created with very little human input.

Thanks to cool technology like natural language processing and machine language models, AI writing tools are getting more popular. They help writers and publishers produce more content. They make content better. And they cut down on research time.

There are tons of benefits to using AI in content creation. But, some people are worried that search engines, especially Google, might not like it and might even penalize them for using AI tools to create content. And this is a valid concern, given that a whopping 85.1% of marketers admit to using AI for some amount of article writing.

So, let’s start with the big question on your mind…

Can Google tell if content is AI-generated?

Yes indeed! Google and other tools are getting good at spotting content made by artificial intelligence. They use tricks like language analysis to figure out patterns and writing styles commonly linked to computer-made content.

I mean, think about it. If AI can analyze an entire language to produce content, then AI ought to be able to analyze a simple blog post to determine if a human created it or if it was written by a computer. So, the short answer is yes – Google can spot content written by AI. Now, should you be worried about that?

Let’s quickly look at Google’s recent update to boost good content, and…

What is Google’s Advice on AI Content?

Google says all content should focus on what users need. They want creators to make content that is helpful and fits what the readers are looking for. That is true for AI content as well. Google wants to promote good content that is unique and high quality. They look for things like expertise, experience, authority, and trustworthiness, which they often refer to as eat with two Es, E‑E-A‑T.

The thing is, what matters most to Google is the quality of the content, not how it’s made. When someone clicks a link in Google, they want users to get dependable and high-quality results.

According to Google, the key is to create content that genuinely helps searchers find what they want. When AI-made content is done well, it can improve the user experience by giving useful information. But Google says not to rely only on AI – human input is important too. Google likes a mix of both AI and human input to create a balance between automated and human-made content.

For a good SEO plan using AI, writers need to understand searcher intent. Google algorithms like content that matches what users are searching for, and AI can help tailor content to meet those needs.

AI can study user behavior and preferences, finding patterns and making content better. In simple terms, Google likes content that’s good for people. So I’ll say this again to stress the point… Google cares more about how good the content is, rather than how it was made. Recent changes mostly target bad content and spammy websites.

Contrary to what many think, the beneficial content update wasn’t specifically aimed at content made by artificial intelligence.

The big deal here is about quality. And that’s not a change that has come along since AI broke onto the scene. Google really cares about good content, and they have for a long time.

While some AI tools might make not-so-great stuff, others can make really good content if you provide them with useful prompts. Keep in mind though, that settling for okay content isn’t good enough, especially in competitive fields. Your goal is to make outstanding content.

Does Google Punish AI-Generated Content?

If you’ve followed what I’ve said so far, the clear answer is no. Google doesn’t punish AI content; it punishes bad content. Many people have gotten high rankings for well-made AI content. For a good SEO plan, using AI is fine, as long as the main goal is to give people valuable content. It’s important to use these tools responsibly, with human editing, to avoid Google problems.

AI solutions are here to stay. They can make content creation easier and even help you save money. So, content creators shouldn’t be scared of getting punished by Google. Instead, they should concentrate on using AI tools the right way.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning have changed how things work online, making processes faster and more efficient, ultimately leading to the potential of improved content.

Google is a big player in the world of AI-made content. They’re all in, if you’re using AI to make things better, not just faster. And always remember that your content is for the benefit of your target audience, not for the sole purpose of ranking in the search results.
